Bram's Promise

Abraham is to become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him so that he will command his children and his house after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. This is how the Lord will fulfill to Abraham what He promised him. - Genesis 18:18-19 -

Abraham laughed. Sarah laughed. Why wouldn't they?

After waiting almost a century for a son, with their backup plans failing and poor Ishmael getting thrown into the mix, anything seemingly hopeful seems ridiculous.

Their servants might think them crazy for believing a promise delivered by three strangers on a dusty day. As the readers, we know that their faith would not be misplaced, but would we if we were in their shoes?

Isn't that something we do naturally? We claim to believe in God's promises but we never really walk in that faith. Content to sit in that hope, we cast doubt and excuses on it, hoping to prove that it will not come true the way we want it to.

At LifeGroup last night, we spoke about the areas in our life where we don't really place our trust in God. Whether it be your finances, relationships, profession, or any other area, we seldom take that first step onto the water and trust God to keep us from sinking. "Let me fix it enough, then I will bring it to You."

Freedom comes from giving over control.

Taking a step into missions might seem like the climax of giving over control of one's life, but it is a continual process. The closer I come to moving, the more it takes for me to lay down my thoughts of staying in a comfort zone.

Trust is not a tightrope, it's a release. Once you leap, you find that the ground could never hurt, because you are flying.
